Summary: This was my first Zelda game and my favorite. This game seems to have everything. Basically, Link is sailing in the ocean and finds himself caught in a storm, knocked unconscious, and awakes on the shore of Koholint Island, having been cared for by Marin, a girl who lives in a hut with her father Tarin in Mabe Village. After wandering around for a while you meet an extremely irritating owl who tells you have to wake the Wind Fish if you ever want to leave Koholint and return home.
The game's graphics are simple but excellent, especially considering this game was made for Gameboy Color. The characters are funny and you actually get attatched to them. The music is the kind that gets stuck in your head if you play the game for too many straight hours (which I'm considering a good thing). There are secret warp holes, a hidden dungeon, challenging sub-quests, and a cute little village where animals frolic about and talk to you. Best of all, however, this game has an excellent plotline, and, when you get a certain item, you can catch chickens on fire.
The only negative on this game is sometimes you just get very badly stuck on a dungeon or even inbetween dungeons. In these cases I referred to an online strategy guide, but if your either very smart or very patient you can figure it out for yourself.

Summary: Welcome to the world of Pokémon, one filled with wild Pokémon and the people who attempt to tame them. You are Ash Ketchum, a boy on a quest to become the best Pokémon trainer in the world. Professor Oak, the leading authority on Pokémon, has given you your choice of three tame Pokémon in exchange for your helping him catalog and document every Pokémon in the world. But to catalog a Pokémon, you have to capture it by first beating it up with one of your trained Pokémon, and then hitting it with an empty Poké Ball. As your tame Pokémon gain experience in battle, their abilities improve and they earn access to new attacks. Sometimes they even evolve into more advanced Pokémon. Aside from capturing wild Pokémon and evolving your own, you can catalog new Pokémon by trading with another Pokémon player using either a link cable or the Game Boy Color's infrared system. Pokémon gained through trades learn and evolve faster, and trading is the only way to capture all 151 Pokémon, since each Pokémon game ("Pokémon Red", "Pokémon Blue", and"Pokémon Yellow") has certain Pokémon missing. Of course, as a Pokémon trainer, you've "gotta catch 'em all!"--150 to be exact. So if you own "Blue" and want to have a complete set of Pokémon, you must find a friendly "Red" or "Yellow" owner and arrange a trade. "Pokémon Blue" is packed with interesting characters, an ingenious story hook, intriguing strategy, and of course plenty of cute Pokemon and it's easy to see how it started the Pokémania that is sweeping the world. "--Michael Fehlauer" Pros: Gameplay and strategy that's fun for all ages Fantastic replay value Brilliant game design encourages players to meet and trade Cons: Hours of looking at the Game Boy's little screen may hurt neck Only 1 saved game per cartridge--2 people can't share a single game No difference between "Red" and "Blue" except for distribution of Pokémon

Summary: Featuring a new adventure that's filled with numerous enhancements and innovations, this long-awaited sequel to "Pokémon Red", "Blue", and "Yellow" greatly improves upon the series' winning formula, and makes for an even more insanely addictive and wholly absorbing gaming experience. Like "Pokémon Silver"--which essentially is the same story, with minor gameplay variations--"Pokémon Gold" casts players in the familiar role of a young Pokémon Trainer who's out to collect as many different kinds of Pokémon as possible. As in previous games, gameplay consists mostly of exploration (completing various quests in the process) and Pokémon battles, which employ a unique battle system that's like a complex twist on rock-paper-scissors. But, despite the similarities, it's quite apparent that "Pokémon Gold" is a whole new ball game from the start. The game is played out in real time, with the current time and day of the week (recorded by an internal clock) having a direct impact on gameplay elements, such as what Pokémon you'll find in the wild, and when certain events occur and characters appear. While there are too many new and improved features in "Pokémon Gold" to list here, among the highlights are 100 new Pokémon (including two new types), new evolution processes (including breeding), and a more streamlined game interface that has better-organized menus and button shortcuts. Although it's easier to progress in "Pokémon Gold" than in the previous games, the sheer amount of fun and game time that's involved is daunting. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better value than this one. "--Joe Hon" Pros: Insanely addictive and wholly absorbing gaming experience Time and day of week impact gameplay directly Bevy of new features and hidden secrets Improved graphics and more streamlined game interface Cons: Minor compatibility issues when using Game Link with previous versions

Summary: After my success of "Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins", I decided to play the first "Super Mario Land". To me this game is okay, but nothing too exciting to write home about. It's basically like playing the first Super Mario game back when it was on Nintendo. There are four levels to beat, and each end of the level has a boss to beat.
The super powers are origonal. All you get is the mushroom and the fire flower. And when you get hit, you'll turn back small (not Super Mario like most games). Also some of the enemies are very difficult to beat and takes a while to kill. And at times, some levels are too difficult to beat (Like the third level [Easter Island]), so it gets real fustrating. I managed to beat the game, and I believe it stats me over from the beginning and it is much harder to play.
Basically this game is alomst exactly like the first Super Mario that was on Nintendo, but just shorter. If you liked that game, then give this one a try.

Summary: I have by accident TWO copies of this original game, one I paid for and other was later a gift. This is a "never-ending" game which I have derived much pleasure using. It never ceases to amaze me and I play it often. I have other tetris games for other platforms, but I still come back to this one game. I love it!!!! The play is excellent and always offers even a seasoned player multiple opportunities. I hate to admit it but I'm over 60! If you have it already keep it, if not then BUY one!

Summary: You play as Wario, and this is a typical platform game. Jump on platform, jump on enemies (some of them).
To make things interesting you collect coins and treasure, there is hidden treasure in this game and you need to complete certain areas, then go back and find the treasure.
You need 10 coins to open the last door on every course, the rest of the money you can spend on 2 different minigames.
The first one is simply luck, you pick a bucket that you think contains a bag of cash. If you get right, you double coins, if you pick the wrong bucket, you loose half the coins.
The other mini-game (you need at least 20 coins) you throw bombs at enemies, time their speed of movement with how hard you throw the bomb.
Depending how many you hit, and how much you paid to play (there are three levels), you get different prices.
The rest of the money goes into Wario's treasure "vault" (rather screen)
The graphic and the music are really good for gameboy.
There are power-up hats for Wario to wear.
A viking hat that enable you to "butt" the ground so enemies fall over and crush blocks.
Dragon-hat that breaths fire.
A jet-hat that enables you to fly forward a certain distance.
And just the regular hat, so you can become regular Wario instead of mini-Wario (which you become if hit by a monster)
The game automatically saves itself, so you just turn the game off when you feel like it.
My biggest issue with this game is how bad Wario moves at times.
In the beginning, he feels a little slow and clumsy.
Near the end, especially when fighting bosses, you get irritated.
Wario mostly died in the game because he jumped to short or he moved to slow.
I mean, the guy walks snail-speed!
And most of the bosses are very quick, so even if you jump, Wario is so slow he dosen't get halfway up in the air, gets hit and dies.
And other time, he LANDS so slow after jumping, he lands in the faces of the monster and dies!
Talk about annoying!
The last boss just feels helpless trying to have Wario save the day, you are supposed to climb up on clouds and hit the boss head, but Wario is so slow the clouds fly away before he can jump up on them!
He also dogdes the boss attacks badly, like mentioned previously, if he manages to get away from one attack, he usually end up landing badly on a monster and dies anyway.

He'll use his trusty whip, as well as a few magical items, to combat Dracula and more than just a few foul minions. Summary: Sure the graphics are much more colorful than the last GBA Castlevania but the graphics and enemies look downright like cartoons in most parts.
Plus whats the deal with your main characters blue shadow?
I think that was a bit of a overkill.
And the magic system has been severely, and badly, toned down from the Castlevania: Circle of the Moon.
And the two identical castle system really lacks imagination and makes the game very very tedius near its end.
Exploring every area of the game TWICE does make the game longer but it definitely doesnt make it funner...

Summary: While it's easy to explain the concept of Sega's brilliant cat-and-mouse puzzle game "ChuChu Rocket"--players use arrows to guide cute little mice (ChuChus) into rocket ships and help them avoid evil, hungry cats--the game's appeal comes from a complex union of many small, simple elements that have been done very, very well. The game's graphics and sound are both fairly rudimentary. The GBA version looks much like the original Dreamcast version of the game, which isn't saying much. Like "Tetris" and other puzzle games, graphic quality is a minor issue here. A major issue is that you can build, save, and actually trade homemade levels. Most of the appeal comes from intense strategic frenzy. You've got to place arrows to redirect the fast-moving mice, and, hopefully, redirect any hungry cats that are on their way to eat your mice. This can get crazy in single-player mode, as you drop arrows and collect mice, approaching the goals set for each level. At the end of the level, when the timer runs out or the goal is reached, the rockets blast off and you proceed to the next level. And though the single-player game is loads of fun, "ChuChu Rocket" really shines when you grab a link cable and connect with up to three friends. When all four of you are placing arrows to redirect mice into your rockets, and are directing cats into opponents' rockets (cats that enter a rocket steal mice, or points, from that player), you'll be laughing hard the entire time. There's nothing quite like it in gaming, and, best of all, you only need one game cartridge for the four of you. Awesome. "--Andrew S. Bub" Pros: Addictive, unique puzzle gameplay You can play with up to three friends on one cart. Four players, one purchase! More than 2,500 levels, plus you can make your own! Cons: Graphics and sound are very simplistic

Summary: "Metroid Fusion" is a side-scrolling action game that's more in line with the series' NES origin than its GameCube contemporary, the first-person action game "Metroid Prime". In this one, players take the bounty hunter Samus on an extermination mission through a research facility to kill X parasites--nasty creatures that absorb and assimilate the powers of their host. After she survived an X attack through the use of a vaccine made with X parasite DNA, she can now absorb the parasites to regain health and obtain special powers, like the morph ball, space jump, and wave beam. The problem is that the parasites are quickly making their way through the research lab's many dangerous projects and subsuming their abilities. As a special bonus to GameCube owners, "Metroid Prime" and "Metroid Fusion" can each unlock special features in the other game via the Nintendo GameCube Game Boy Advance cable. For example, by completing "Metroid Fusion", you can unlock the original NES version of "Metroid" in "Metroid Prime". By completing "Metroid Prime", you can unlock Samus's fusion suit for use in "Metroid Prime".

Summary: As the most malicious playground game ever (well, next to the social anxiety of musical chairs), dodge ball gets its proper, playful venue on the Game Boy Advance with "Super Dodge Ball Advance". The game, based on the NES classic, takes place in the not-so-distant future when the sport of preteens has become the sport of kings and national pride hangs on the home team's ability to triumph in the number-one worldwide sport. Gamers choose a national team and compete against eight other countries in tournament-style bouts. You can knock the competition woozy with all sorts of different moves (that slam-a-jam jump-throw is our favorite), customize your team by defining the attributes of your players, and play head-to-head against a friend's Game Boy Advance with the separately sold communication cable.

This time he's heard tales of a golden pyramid--which is enough to send the big blowhard scurrying off to the nearest jungle. He finds the place, but before he can collect his treasure he'll have to undergo a brain- and body-bending series of challenges. Four guardians stand jealously over the four sections of the pyramid. Wario will either have to defeat each guardian or activate a switch and escape before time runs out. No longer invincible, Wario will have to replenish his health meter by gathering pieces of heart. While exploring the pyramid, Wario gets flat and heavy, and undergoes other transformations. Minigames provide more diversions on the way to the final showdown with the pyramid boss.

Summary: Built upon the wildly popular "Rampage" game originally offered on the NES system, the newly released "Rampage Total Destruction" for the Wii console is sure to please your most destructive appetites. Game Storyline In "Rampage Total Destruction", you take on the role of mutated giant monsters created by the unscrupulous Scum Labs
"The city is helpless against the rampage. Destroy it! View larger."
"Hilarious monsters and lots of cities to flatten. View larger."
"Challenge your friends to a four-way rampage. View larger." corporation (operating under the guise of a harmless soft drink company). Your goal is to progress through a series of cities around the glove, and in the process, destroy as much of the cities as possible in an effort to locate all the other captive monsters. If that seems like too much to handle, first try the included bonus content that contains the original "Rampage", and "Rampage World Tour" games. Gameplay "Rampage Total Destruction" features four main game modes. The first, is a campaign mode, where one or two players work to progressively take out cities around the world. In each city, the players destroy the city, unlock new characters, and unlock the four special abilities for each monster. The second and third modes, King of the City, and King of the World, are competitive modes where up to four players compete. In King of the City, players strive to rule a city by dominating the most districts. King of the World is a series of King of the City competitions across various cities. Finally, the fourth mode, a time trial mode, exists where a player tries to destroy all the districts of a city in an allotted amount of time. "Rampage Total Destruction" capitalizes on the previous "Rampage" releases by allowing you to play 30 different monsters, each with their own unique destructive attributes. When you feel the need to exercise those destructive tendencies, just choose one of the characters, proceed to roam through 7 major cities around the globe, and destroy everything in your path.

Summary: It's fun to destroy stuff in this game. Blowing up whole towns just doesn't get old. I don't know how successful this game was, but it seems it was underrated. I rented it once and enjoyed it a lot. The only problem I had with it was it got pretty difficult after finishing some of the easier levels, and I don't think there were all that many easy levels.

Summary: "Conker's Bad Fur Day" is for adults, the ESRB has rated thisgame Mature; it should not be bought for--or played by or around--children. That stated, the story of the game is the following: Conker's very "good" night turns into a very bad day. He has to deal with a crazy and abusive world, all while suffering through a massive hangover. Conker encounters abusive paint pots; jabbering dung beetles; trigger-happy, scar-faced Tediz; and a belligerent giant, with only a frying pan as a means of self-defense. He is resourceful, however, and makes the best of his situation. The game combines elements of 3-D exploration, combat, and puzzle solving. It features cinematic cutscenes, movie parodies, facial expressions, dozens of unhinged characters, and 1- to 4-player deathmatch games in a variety of styles.

Summary: "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" may be the greatest single-player video game ever created in any genre. It's that good. Those new to Nintendo's enormously popular "Zelda" series will be glad to know this game stands completely on its own. Our hero, Link, starts the game as a young boy living in a magical forest village populated by elf-like children. But there is evil lurking in the world. Strange monsters are appearing, and the land is changing. It's up to Link to discover why, defeat the monsters, and stop the evil at its source. The game world's ever-changing environment looks like a fairy tale come to life. Majestic waterfalls, towering castles, and magical forests are a feast for the eyes and ears. Rivers flow, rain falls, the sun and moon rise and set. There's even an erupting volcano! Exploring this world is half the fun of the game. Along the way, you learn musical tunes that you can play on the flute-like Ocarina, a magical device that helps you teleport, alter the weather, even control time itself. Character interaction is important to gather clues. The fairy princesses, singing frogs, and dragons you'll meet can be cute, humorous, or somewhat terrifying. Sprinkled liberally throughout the game are hundreds of secret treasures and enjoyable minigames (one of which, the fishing game, would almost be worth buying by itself). Game controls are easy to learn. There's even an elaborate fight training course built right into the game. Controlling the hero quickly becomes instinctive, and you can concentrate on saving the world. To win the game, you'll have to use not only Link's sword, but your mind as well. This game's challenging and inventive puzzles really make you think. In fact, to keep from getting stuck, it's worth spending a few bucks on an official player's guide. With "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time", Nintendo has come up with an all-consuming adventure title that will provide days of engrossing gameplay. "--Eric Fredrickson" Pros: Best single-player video game Freedom to explore a rich, complex world Helpful fairy guide gives hints Charming, humorous, lighthearted, yet challenging Cons: Some puzzles can be frustrating Only one saved game per player--don't save when you're stuck! Much more fun with Rumble Pack

Summary: "Mario Kart 64", one of the first games released for the Nintendo 64 platform, is an updated translation of the very popular "Super Mario Kart" for the Super NES (SNES). And while the game clearly takes full advantage of the graphics power and speed of the N64, a few components that made the original so compelling have been left out of this release. Still, Nintendo's expertise at sucking players into the game world is strongly evident, and "Mario Kart 64" offers enough challenges to keep players (especially casual gamers) entertained. Placing a familiar Nintendo personality behind the wheel of a sputtering kart powered by a 50, 100, or 150-cc engine, the game lets players race computerized opponents or up to four other players on a variety of well-designed tracks. Because karts lack the power and speed of race cars, drivers must focus on collecting power-ups and nonlethal weapons rather than negotiating hairpin turns on two wheels. Grabbing and using on-track items is the heart of the game's fun: a strategically-placed banana peel sends the unlucky victim into a spin, nailing an opponent with a turtle shell launches their vehicle skyward, and a rocket provides a quick boost to near-breakneck speeds, if only for a moment. The multiplayer mode provides enormously chaotic fun for up to four players--flip it on at a party and watch the guests congregate around the screen. "--Eric Twelker" Pros: Well-designed tracks Simple controls Strong multiplayer appeal Cons: Computerized opponents sometimes pull off questionable feats

Summary: At first when I bought this I though "Why the heck did I just do that? It looks so stupid." When I got it home I doubtfully fired it up only to find it was actually a good game. It's almost a Mega Man Senario where the main robot heroine, Marina, must save her creator from some nasty goons who kidnapped him. She doesn't a blaster like megaman (at least not as far as I have gotten)but her grabs, throws and rolls more than compensate for it. If you like what I've described and don't mind that the hero is a girl, then this is the game for you.

Summary: "Paper Mario" has a 2-D look in a 3-D game world--an aesthetic designed to make players feel as if they've entered an animated pop-up book. A stationary camera helps reinforce this storybook illusion. The game's title is taken from the paper-thin characters inhabiting the Mushroom Kingdom. For example, when Mario is sleeping, he flips and flutters through the air like a leaf falling from a tree. "Paper Mario" is the sequel to the classic Super NES role-playing game "Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars". Like the original, it contains a mix of turn-based battles and intricate puzzles, as well as timed attacks. Players time their attacks by moving the D-pad and pressing the A button at exactly the right moment to inflict maximum damage. This seasons "Paper Mario" with a little action/adventure flavor. Classic characters, such as Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, and Toad, are joined by the likes of Goombario and Kammy Koopa.

Summary: Although it's geared more for younger players, "Pokémon Snap" is good clean fun for Pokémon fans of any age. In this Pokémon battle-free adventure, players assist Professor Oak in completing his Pokémon Report by photographing the cute little buggers in the wild on Pokémon Island. Players take a trolley-like ride through the island's 3-D environments, filled with Pokémon that not only look just like they do in the cartoons, but also have "cries" to match. While there's a limited amount of film for each trip and no zoom lens, players enjoy great freedom of directional movement from within the vehicle, thanks to solid controls. "Pokémon Snap" isn't as easy as it looks, as not just any old picture will satisfy Professor Oak; submissions for his Pokémon Report are judged on size, pose, technique, and whether or not there's more than one of the same Pokémon in the picture. As progress is made, new areas open up, and players are given items to aid them in their quest. Although there are only seven areas, they need to be revisited often, as hidden and otherwise uncooperative Pokémon must be "coaxed" by using items that you previously didn't have before. Also, Pokémon will do some of the craziest things--which make for great photographs--but only under certain conditions that require much experimentation (or a strategy guide) to unearth. "--Joe Hon" Pros: Good clean fun for Pokémon fans of any age Cute Pokémon 3-D graphics and "cries" faithful to the cartoon series Print out stickers of your photos at a Pokémon Snap Sticker Station Cons: An anti-Pokémaniac's worst nightmare Contains only 63 of the 151 Pokémon Game cartridge can hold only 1 player's save data

Summary: As with just about anything brandishing the Pokémon name, "Pokémon Stadium" is a must-have for any Pokémaniac. But this title is especially geared towards owners of "Pokémon Red", "Pokémon Blue", or "Pokémon Yellow" for the Game Boy. Using the same battle system as the Game Boy games--think highly advanced rock-paper-scissors--"Pokémon Stadium" allows players to enter their Pokémon in a variety of tournaments and other battle modes, all featuring vibrant 3-D graphics and animation, as well as enhanced sounds and announcer commentary. Using the included Transfer Pak, players can use their own Pokémon from Game Boy Game Paks, or they can choose from a pool of rental Pokémon. "Pokémon Stadium" isn't all battles, though. The Kids Club mode features nine cutesy minigames that make for great multiplayer fun for all ages. Gallery mode lets players take snapshots of Pokémon (similar to "Pokémon Snap"), which can then be printed out as stickers at your local "Pokémon Snap" station. While "Pokémon Stadium" doesn't require that you already have any Game Boy version of "Pokémon", players won't be able to access two of the best features of the game without one. Pokémon Lab allows players to view, store, and better organize the data on their Game Paks, as well as trade Pokémon with another player (which requires an additional Transfer Pak, sold separately). GB Tower allows gamers to play their Game Boy "Pokémon" cartridge on the Nintendo 64. "--Joe Hon" Pros: Tried-and-true Pokémon battle system with enhanced graphics and sounds Allows you to play your Game Boy "Pokémon" game on the Nintendo 64 Ability to manipulate data on your Game Boy "Pokémon" game Minigames make for great multiplayer fun for all ages Cons: Not likely to win over any Pokémon holdouts The Game Boy "Pokémon" games are a better starting point for newbies to the genre

Summary: It is a time soon after the destruction of the first Death Star. Luke Skywalker has formed a squadron of hot-shot pilots to engage the still-formidable Imperial forces. You, as Luke, must lead this rogue squadron in a series of galaxy-spanning raids and rescues. To complete all your missions, you'll need good flying skills, fast reflexes, a keen eye, and a quick trigger finger. You get to fly all your favorite ships: The X-wing, Y-wing, snowspeeder--even the Millennium Falcon. There are also some "secret" ships, such as the sleek Naboo Starfighterfrom Star Wars: Episode I, The Phantom Menace, a TIE interceptor, and, um, a '78 Buick. The flight simulation in this game is first-rate. You'll find yourself leaning to the side as you pull a high-G turn in pursuit of Imperial TIE fighters. And the outstanding graphics and sounds are realistic enough to transport you to the "Star Wars" universe. Every detail is in place, right down to the individual Stormtroopers you can see running around (and trying to shoot you). One of the more impressive sequences lets you bring down Imperial Walkers by using the tow cables on your snowspeeder. Nice touch. This is a single-player game, but you start each mission with a few wingmen from your squadron, and the well-done spoken dialogue between pilots and commanders really makes you feel like part of a team. The only significant shortcoming is the lack of a cooperative multiplayer option. With its excellent gameplay, varied environments, and interesting missions, "Star Wars: Rogue Squadron" is sure to become a long-time favorite. "--Eric Fredrickson" Pros: Faithful to lots of "Star Wars" details Satisfying flight action, explosions, sound effects Interesting missions and plot See--and fight over--the Spice mines of Kessel and other famous "Star Wars" planets Cons: For some reason, you can only fly clockwise when bringing down a Walker No "easy" setting for those without The Force Voices of Luke, Wedge, and Han don't sound like the real thing

Summary: This game is very creative and imaginative. I think the story is magnificient and the styles of gameplay that drastically switch to tell the story are great. Dash Rendar is a great character that is believable in the Star Wars universe. The soundtrack is beyond amazing even though not all of it is done by John Williams. A great game and I for one recommend this game to any Star Wars fan.

Summary: The game that launched the Nintendo 64 system stands the test of time as one of the first and best exploratory action/adventure games. Guide the legendary plumber through an incredibly vast magical world with never-before-seen movement and camera-angle freedom. Mario's got the moves with graduated speeds of running and walking, jumps, super jumps, bounce attacks, swimming, and more. The more you play, the more moves you'll discover. This industry milestone game lets gamers play at their own pace, encouraging them to explore new nooks and crannies of its many levels with a Zen-like approach where the journey is as important as the goal. Other N64 games such as "Zelda", "Banjo-Kazooie", and "Donkey Kong 64" all owe much of their inspiration to this gem of a game. A showcase for the system's graphics and processing speed capabilities, "Super Mario 64" is a must-have for any N64 owner. "--Jeff Young" Pros: Huge world makes for enduring game experience Plenty of room for replay State-of-the-art graphics for its time Imaginative levels keep you guessing, and helpful characters act as an in-game tutorial Cons: First-generation game doesn't feature as much texture or detail in graphics

Summary: All of your favorite Nintendo characters have come together to answer the question: who is king of the Nintendo hill? The format can aptly be described as "Super Mario Kart" meets "Mortal Kombat", which makes for an odd, yet addictive game. The object is to throw, punch, smash, or blast your opponents off the edge of the beautifully rendered, themed arenas. Numerous power-ups, weapons, and surprises help or hinder the melee. Your eventual goal is to fight your way through to a bizarre final boss character. Victory in this battle rewards you with another character to play, such as the scene-stealing Pokémon, Jigglypuff. From Star Fox's laser pistol to Link's hook shot, each character's trademark special abilities are utilized to knock one another off the screen. The game does a great job balancing the characters' widely differing powers so that no one character has an insurmountable advantage. The sound and animations are also dead-on: Donkey Kong is a huge, cartoonish ape, while Link is much more detailed and realistic. And Pikachu's famous thunder shock attack is accompanied by a fearsome yell of "PIKA!" Unlike most fighting games, "Super Smash Bros." allows you to team up with a computer partner and take on other teams in both single and multiplayer modes. But the most fun is had when four human players play in a battle royale. The game quickly becomes a scene of incredibly fun chaos: picture Mario beating up on Luigi, while Donkey Kong is chased by a scampering, sledgehammer-wielding Pikachu. It's the perfect party game. "--Hugh Arnold" Pros: Great characters: Mario, Luigi, Pikachu, Kirby, Donkey Kong, Link, Star Fox, Yoshi, and more Simple gameplay Computer partner option Colorful arenas Cons: Limited number of arenas

Summary: Okay. So back in 1996, the Nintendo already had Super Mario 64. The addition of the critically acclaimed Wave Race 64 made the Nintendo 64 even more promising over the then-somewhat-struggling PlayStation. Although it may be largely forgotten now after the relative failure of Wave Race: Blue Storm, Wave Race 64 opened to critical raves and is still a cornerstone of Nintendo 64 nostalgia for gamers.
But you know what? I think Wave Race 64 isn't really that fun! Is it a good game? Sure, it's a wonderful game when you talk about the technology relative to the time period. I mean, the graphics are phenomenal for 1996. The water is very nice, and so are the effects. The music is great. It has that soft jazz feel that appeals to people that don't work in IGN. The sound effects are pretty good, such as the "blub" sound when you hit a buoy. Heh. Blub. Blub. Blub. The announcer is just as annoying as the guy in Pokemon Stadium, but having that many voice samples in a game is something not even Super Mario 64 achieved. The guy just needs to tone down his enthusiasm. It sounds terribly hokey. And yeah. The game's physics are good, what with the waves and the water and stuff.
But you know? Aesop was right. If you are unable to succeed in something, then you are more likely to pass it off as irrelevant, or not worth it. The same thing applies for video games, and it is something I had discussed in many earlier takes. Games in which an individual sucks at are more likely to be labeled "not fun" by that individual. Well, guess what? I SUCK at Wave Race 64. I have never been able to get used to the wave physics, and I never remember specific controls. I do well enough in Normal mode, but every other mode pwns me. I was never into jet-skiing games anyways, so I am more apt to become discouraged, and I say that the game is not fun. It's a vicious cycle, and apparently the game is the victim. Oh well. I have other things to complain about. I can't do stunts, so I don't like stunt mode. (Gee. What a surprise.) And this game would have been PERFECT if it had 4-player mode.
